Recent high school graduates participate in summer quantum computing fellowship

Eleven recent (2020) high school graduates are working as quantum computing summer fellows with Prof. Kathy Hunt this summer. Three of the students were also quantum computing interns last summer. All of the interns have made terrific progress! The students are learning to master the interconversion between the graphical or Jupyter notebook representations of quantum gates and their matrix representations, as well as the use of Kronecker products to prepare matrices for operations on state vectors, where each entry in the state vector refers to a possible state of multiple qubits. The program is part of the MSU Summer Internship Program for Rising High-School Seniors and Recent Graduates, and is based at the MSU St. Andrews Facility in Midland, Michigan.  The MSU program is supported by the Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow Foundation, the Rollin M. Gerstacker Foundation, and the Charles J. Strosacker Foundation.
